Terms of Use
Plain English first. Sweep rounds up your purchases and turns the spare change into bitcoin in a wallet only you control. These terms are the agreement between you and Sweep. If anything is unclear, email hello@sweepapp.io and we'll explain it.

1. Purpose and acceptance
These Terms, together with the Privacy Statement and Risk Disclaimer, form a binding agreement between you and Sweep. By creating an Account you accept them. We may change these Terms; we will tell you in the App or by email before a significant change takes effect, and continuing to use Sweep after that means you accept the change.
You acknowledge that bitcoin's price is volatile and that you can lose some or all of the money you put in. Sweep gives no financial advice. Nothing in the App or on the Website is a recommendation to buy, hold or sell anything.
2. The Services
2.1 Round-ups
Sweep reads each card purchase on your connected account, rounds it up to the next whole dollar, applies your Multiplier, and instructs the Conversion Partner to turn that amount into bitcoin. The bitcoin is delivered to your Wallet over the Lightning Network. Each sweep is shown in the App with the purchase it came from, the amount swept and the bitcoin received.
2.2 One-off purchases (Buy)
You may buy bitcoin in a single purchase of an amount you choose, converted by the Conversion Partner and delivered to your Wallet.
2.3 Your Wallet — non-custodial
Unlike most apps, Sweep does not hold your bitcoin. Your Wallet's keys are generated on your phone and stay there. Sweep cannot move, freeze, recover or access your bitcoin. Sweep is never in the chain of custody for your money: it moves from your bank, through the Conversion Partner, to your Wallet. Sweep sends instructions only.
Your Recovery Words restore your Wallet in the Sweep App, and in other apps built on the same wallet technology. Not every bitcoin wallet uses the same technology. If you restore your Recovery Words in a different wallet and it shows no balance, your bitcoin is not lost: restore them in the Sweep App instead. Ask us if you're unsure.
2.4 Send and receive
You may send bitcoin from your Wallet to any Lightning address or invoice, and receive bitcoin into it. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible once sent. Sweep cannot reverse a payment sent to the wrong place.
You may send your whole balance to a bitcoin, Lightning or other supported address. When you do, the network fee is taken out of the amount sent, so the amount that arrives is slightly less than your balance.
2.5 Withdraw
You may convert bitcoin back to dollars through the Conversion Partner and have it paid into your bank account. No exchange account is needed.
- One at a time. You can have one withdrawal in progress at a time. A new one can be started once the last one has finished.
- Fees. The amount you can withdraw allows for the Conversion Partner's costs and network fees. If the full amount won't cover them, the App will tell you the most you can withdraw before anything is sent.
- If your wallet doesn't send. If a withdrawal starts but no bitcoin leaves your Wallet, nothing has moved. The attempt is cancelled automatically.
- Once your bitcoin has been sent it can't be reversed. Bitcoin payments are final. If a withdrawal is delayed after your bitcoin has been sent, we will keep working to complete the payment to your bank. We will not cancel it. If it has not reached your bank within two hours, the App will tell you and you can contact us.
- Withdrawals take as long as bank transfers take.
2.6 Insights, Sweepy and content
The App shows spending insights, an estimate of your own inflation rate, an in-app guide (Sweepy), and educational videos, podcasts and articles. These are general information, not advice. See the Risk Disclaimer.
3. Browsing the Website
The Website is free to read without an Account. Joining the early-access list on the Website gives us the details you enter so we can contact you about Sweep, as described in the Privacy Statement.
4. Your Account
4.1 Opening an Account
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement.
- You must live in a country where Sweep is available. Sweep is launching in the United States first.
- You must use your own identity and your own bank account, and hold only one Account.
- Before any bitcoin can be bought, you must complete identity verification with the Conversion Partner. This is required by law and is the same kind of check a bank performs. Sweep receives only the outcome, not your documents.
- You are responsible for keeping your phone, passcode and Recovery Words secure.
4.2 Recovery Words
When you set up Sweep your phone generates twelve Recovery Words. They are the only way to restore your Wallet on a new phone. We never have them, cannot see them and cannot recover them. Write them down, keep them offline and never share them. Sweep will never ask for them; anyone who does is trying to steal from you. If you lose your Recovery Words and your phone, your bitcoin may be lost permanently.
4.3 Suspension
We may suspend your Account without notice if we reasonably suspect fraud, if identity verification fails or is withdrawn, if the law requires it, if you hold more than one Account, or if you break these Terms. Suspension stops sweeps and purchases. It does not affect your Wallet: your bitcoin remains yours and under your control.
4.4 Pausing, leaving and deleting
Pause. You can pause round-ups at any time from the App and resume them whenever you like. Your bank stays connected.
Leave Sweep. You can leave Sweep at any time from the App. Before you leave:
- you must confirm you have your Recovery Words. The App will ask you to re-enter some of them. This is for your protection: without them, your bitcoin can't be recovered if you lose your phone.
- you choose what happens to your bitcoin: keep it in the App in Wallet-only mode, send it to another wallet, or withdraw it to your bank.
When you leave, round-ups stop, your bank connection is removed, and your bank account is removed from the Conversion Partner. Your Wallet is not touched. Your bitcoin stays yours. You can't leave while a withdrawal, purchase or sweep is still in progress; wait until it has finished. You can come back at any time by switching Sweep back on in the App and reconnecting your bank.
Delete your Account. You can delete your Account from Settings in the App or by emailing us. Before deleting, you must confirm you have your Recovery Words, as above. Deleting removes your personal information from Sweep, except what we must keep by law or under our agreements with partners (see section 12). After deleting, you can still restore your Wallet with your Recovery Words, but you will need a new Account to use round-ups again.
We may close an Account for breach of these Terms, and may refuse a new Account to someone whose Account we closed.
5. Fees
- Sweep fee: 3% of each sweep, shown in the App.
- Subscription: free for your first three months, then $4.99 a month.
- Partner and network costs: the Conversion Partner's costs and bitcoin network fees may apply and are shown in the App.
Fees are subject to change. We will tell you in the App before a change takes effect. Bitcoin prices in the App are shown in real time; if an obvious pricing error occurs, we may cancel or correct the affected sweep. Because converting has a fixed cost, very small sweeps lose proportionally more to fees; the Multiplier exists partly to help with that.
6. Rewards and referrals
If Sweep offers rewards, streaks or referral programs, each will have its own rules shown in the App, which apply alongside these Terms. Rewards may be changed or withdrawn, and are not guaranteed. Fraudulent use of any program ends your eligibility.
7. Cooling-off
Because bitcoin's price depends on market movements, a completed sweep or purchase cannot be undone. You may pause round-ups, leave Sweep or delete your Account at any time (see section 4.4).
8. Your responsibilities
- Use Sweep lawfully, for your own personal saving.
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Cooperate with reasonable requests from us or the Conversion Partner relating to verification or the law.
- Handle your own tax obligations. Sweep provides transaction history you can export; it does not give tax advice.
- You are responsible for everything done through your Account and Wallet.
9. Our liability
Sweep is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for: changes in the price of bitcoin; loss of your phone or Recovery Words; bitcoin network or Lightning Network risks; outages or errors of banks, the Bank Connection Provider or the Conversion Partner; maintenance; cyber-attack; or losses from information you gave us that was wrong. Where we are liable, our liability is limited to direct and reasonably foreseeable loss, capped at the Sweep fees you paid in the twelve months before the event. Nothing in these Terms removes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any law that cannot be excluded.
10. Events beyond our control
We are not responsible for failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including government action, network or power failure, natural events or pandemics.
11. Ending this agreement
Either of us may end this agreement. You, by leaving Sweep or deleting your Account. We, with 30 days' notice, or immediately for a serious breach or where the law or a partner's withdrawal makes the Services impossible. If Sweep ceases to operate, we will tell you; your bitcoin remains yours, in your Wallet, recoverable with your Recovery Words.
12. After this agreement ends
Your right to use the Services ends. Fees already incurred remain payable. Your Wallet and bitcoin are unaffected.
We keep the records the law requires, even after you leave or delete your Account. These include transaction records and records of your acceptance of the Conversion Partner's terms, which we must keep for at least five years. The Conversion Partner keeps its own records as the law requires it to. Everything else is deleted. See the Privacy Statement.
13. Intellectual property
Sweep, Sweepy, the Sweep multiplier and all content, software and design in the App and Website belong to Sweep IP Pty Ltd. You may use them for your own saving. You may not copy, extract, resell or reverse-engineer them.
14. Support and complaints
Email hello@sweepapp.io, or use Contact support in the App, which sends your diagnostic logs with the message. If you make a complaint, we will acknowledge it promptly and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
15. General
If we don't enforce a term, we can still enforce it later. If any part of these Terms is found invalid, the rest still applies. You may not transfer this agreement to anyone else.
16. Personal data
How we collect and use your data is set out in the Privacy Statement, which forms part of these Terms.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and disputes are subject to the courts there, without removing any consumer protection you have where you live.
