Data Retention and Deletion
We keep what we need, for as long as we need it, and no longer. This page sets out what Sweep keeps, for how long, and what happens when you delete your account. It goes with our Privacy Statement.
What we never hold
Your twelve recovery words and your wallet's keys are created on your phone and never leave it. Sweep has never had them, so there is nothing for us to keep or delete. Your bitcoin stays in your wallet whatever happens to your Sweep account.
We never receive your bank username or password.
How long we keep each kind of data
Account details (name, email, country): while you have a Sweep account. Deleted when you delete your account.
Your bank connection: while you have it connected. When you leave Sweep or delete your account, we disconnect it and ask the bank-connection provider to end our access.
Bank transactions we read: kept while you have a Sweep account, to work out round-ups and show your insights. Deleted when you delete your account.
Transaction history (your sweeps, buys, sends, receives and withdrawals): seven years, as Australian law requires for financial records. This is kept even after you delete your account.
Records that you accepted our conversion partner's terms: at least five years, as our agreement with that partner requires.
Identity verification: your identity documents are collected and held by our regulated conversion partner, under their own rules. Sweep only receives the outcome.
App diagnostics (logs you send with a support request): up to 90 days, then deleted.
Waiting list (name, email, country, phone type from this website): until Sweep launches where you are, or until you ask us to remove you.
When you delete your account
You can delete your account in Settings in the app, or by emailing hello@sweepapp.io. When you do:
Your round-ups stop. Your bank connection is removed. Your account with our conversion partner is closed. Your name, email and password are removed, and your email is freed so you could sign up again one day.
Your transaction history is kept for the seven years the law requires, and is not used for anything else. Your wallet is not touched. Your bitcoin is still yours, and your twelve words still restore it.
Copies in our encrypted backups are deleted as the backups expire, within 30 days.
Pausing instead of deleting
If you only pause Sweep, your round-ups stop but your account and bank connection stay as they are, so you can switch Sweep back on whenever you like. Nothing is deleted.
Asking for your data
You can ask for a copy of your data, or for it to be corrected or deleted, at hello@sweepapp.io. We'll confirm it is you before acting, and respond within 45 days.
